In Singapore, motorsports' fans are gearing up as the island nation prepares to host the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Grand Prix, an event known by many as one of the highlights in the racing calendar. Taking place at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, the world-renowned night race will interweave amongst many of the cities most iconic landmarks. Now celebrating it's 12th edition, the Singapore Grand Prix is expected to draw in 65,000 people each day, making it one of the largest annual events to be hosted in the city.
To add to all the excitement, some of the biggest names in the music industry will perform at the Grand Prix Concert over the same weekend. Headlining the Friday night are EDM supergroup Swedish House Mafia, who recently got back together after a five year break and have played at a handful of events this year. As they previously dropped out of their scheduled performance at Ultra Korea in June, the Singapore Grand Prix will be the first time that the group have played in Asia since they reunited.
Swedish House Mafia are to be joined by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers as well as British band Muse, who have an arena tour booked for this September. Support for the headliners will be provided by a broad variety of acts, including three time Grammy Award winning artist Gwen Stefani, as well as Fatboy Slim, Hans Zimmer and Toots and the Maytals.
Swedish House Mafia's Rise to Success
Swedish House Mafia were first formed in 2008, made up of artists Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello. Although each member of the group has his own individual style, with their combined talents they were able to create two chart-topping albums and six singles. It goes without saying that every EDM fan's playlist will have been dominated by Swedish House Mafia's tracks at one point or another- whether it's One (Your Name) with Pharrell Williams, the Knife Party collaboration Antidote or their biggest hit Don't You Worry Child, the unique melodies have propelled the group to unparalleled success.
On June 24, 2012, the trio officially announced that they would break up, following their performance scheduled for Ultra Music Festival Miami on March 27, 2013. Whilst the exact details are a little unclear, what's known for sure is that the three people have a difference in musical opinions. After they disbanded, Axwell and Ingrosso joined together to form the two-person group Axwell & Ingrosso, producing slightly more mainstream music such as their tracks Sun is Shining, More Than You Know and Dreamer. On the other hand, Steve Angello continued to perform under his own name, dedicating his time to making progressive house and tech house, visible in his tracks Children of the Wild, Wasted Love and Break Me Down. Both parties continued to tour the world at major music festivals, accumulating more diehard fans.
Reunion
On March 25, 2018, the trio once again boarded the stage at Ultra Music Festival Miami under the name Swedish House Mafia, announcing their return as a group. Earlier this year, in Sweden's capital Stockholm, the supergroup gave their first tour since getting back together. They used the latest state-of-the-art technology, sound effects and lighting to blow the minds of all who went to watch, officially declaring their return as kings of progressive house.
