Next March, world renowned festival brand Ultra will be making its way back to Australia for the second year running, bringing with it an all-star lineup of mainstays from EDM and underground dance music. Ultra Australia will be one of the first stops on Ultra Worldwide 2020's tour, occurring directly after the inaugural Ultra Abu Dhabi which was just announced recently.
Last week, the festival released their first wave of DJs set to perform, with with EDM giants like Zedd, Afrojack and DJ Snake set to headline, along with trance icon Dash Berlin (Jeffrey Sutorius).
For 2020, Ultra have clearly taken note of the surge in popularity for underground music, as next year's lineup showcases some of techno's best and brightest. One of the biggest surprises was the addition of Eric Prydz— for those who don't know, Prydz is famously scared of flying and often backs out of events if he's required to take a plane.
James Lillo's Last Wish
However, the reason he's willing to face his fears at last is perhaps due to James Lillo, a dedicated fan who tragically passed away after a battle with cancer. Several years ago, Lillo expressed to the Reddit community that one of his dying wishes was to see Eric Prydz perform. As soon as he heard about the touching story, Prydz decided to fly James out to LA for a show—with all proceeds to go to the charity of his choice, Cancer Research Institute.
Unfortunately, Lillo passed away in the weeks running up to the show. After his passing, his family sent a stone containing some of his ashes to Prydz, asking him to take James traveling around the world with him. In particular, James had always expressed how much he'd love to visit Australia, and it seems like with Prydz headlining slot at Ultra next March, that dream will finally become a reality.
In addition to this, the other headliners waving the flag for techno are Chilean-Swiss DJ Luciano, as well as another performance by Prydz under his alias Cired Z. The three acts confirmed as support for the weekend— namely Deborah De Luca, Eats Everything and UMEK—are also techno DJs and will be gracing the Resistance stage with their pulsating beats come March.
Ultra Australia will take place in Sydney on March 7 and Melbourne on March 8. Tickets for the event are already on sale and can be purchased via the links below.
